Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal inspected on Tuesday, November, 24 the relocation of the Tunsi Market (Souq Al-Tunsi) in Al-Basatin suburb simultaneously with the demolition of the old one in line with political leadership's instruction to provide a decent life to all citizens and eliminate informal settlements as well as relocate the vendors to new urban sites.
The governor pointed out that the new market covers an area of 30000 square meters and it cost 300 million pounds. The market consists of five buildings worth LE 230 million and include 324 shops allocated for selling ceramic, furniture and sanitary ware in addition to another 124 shops at the flea market.
Abdel Aal added that the new location of the market is only a kilometer away from the demolished one. It is also linked with Autostrad Street and the Ring Road to be reachable from all over Cairo.
Moreover, the governor said that the whole market is monitored through surveillance cameras and surrounded by an external fence to secure it. It also has seven gates for individuals and vehicles as well as a police station, fire station, utility rooms, and several administrative buildings.
