Cairo Governor: inauguration of Al-Mokattam waste management plant in presence of three ministers

Under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Egypt's Prime Minister to implement a new system to manage municipal solid waste across Egypt, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad, Minister of State for Military Production Abdel Moneim El-Terras, and Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal inaugurated waste transfer station in Al-Mokattam suburb.

 

Attended the inauguration, Deputy Cairo Governor Jihan Abdel Moneim, Head of Cairo's Cleaning and Beautification Authority Ehab El-Shershabi, and several officials of Local Development Ministry, Environment Ministry, and Cairo governorate.

 

Thereafter, the Ministers of Local Development, Environment, and Military Production, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, and Cairo Governor checked on the equipment of Cairo's Cleaning and Beautification Authority located in a garage next to the station, which was maintained recently as part of the program funded by the Ministry of Local Development to repair and maintain waste collection equipment in different provinces.   

 

Shaarawy asserted that the inauguration of the transfer station comes under the directives of political leadership to implement the first program of waste system infrastructure, pointing out that the 200 million Egyptian pounds were allocated for the first phase projects in Cairo, which include establishing and operating solid waste transfer stations and buying new equipment to upgrade waste collection system.

 

For her part, Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad assured that the newly-opened waste management station is a new step in the waste system infrastructure as part of the Ministry's regulatory and supervising role in the new waste management system as well as the role of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority which aims to regulate, follow and oversee all waste management processes locally and centrally to improve safe management of waste and overcome any current or future challenges.  

 

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Military Production expressed his pleasure to participate in the inauguration, adding that it is one of the good examples that reflects the integration and cooperation between the different partners concerned with implementing the new waste management system to achieve the work in a way that serves the interests of citizens and ensure rapid disposal of waste.
