Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal inspected Saturday the Azhar Road Tunnel to follow up on its technical and structural status.
During his tour, Abdel Aal visited the tunnel’s central control room equipped with large screens and automatic devices monitoring and reporting any accidents or technical difficulties inside the tunnel to deal with it immediately.
The Azhar Tunnel consists of two road tunnels. The north one is 2610 meters, and the south is 2640 meters with a capacity of 2000 cars per hour for both tunnels. The two tunnels connect Salah Salem Road and the Downtown area.
The Azhar Tunnel Project has four massive ventilation stations. It also has a high-quality ventilation system to clear the air and the visibility inside the tunnel. In addition, there is a water drainage system, firefighting system, and cross passages for emergency cases.
Abdel Aal was accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hadi, Assistant Secretary-General Ibrahim Awad, Chairman of the Central Department of Al-Azhar Tunnel Maintenance and Operation Eng. Wael Atef, and the Head of the Electronics and Communication Department Engineering Faculty, Cairo University.
