Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal inspected a model of one of the bike docking stations installed in Tahrir Square in the Downtown area to follow up on the executive procedures to begin the operation of the Cairo Bike Project.
The Cairo Bike Project aims to spread and promote the use of bicycles as an alternative means of transportation in the capital. The project is a collaborative effort between the Cairo governorate and the development partners with the support of the UN Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) and funded by the Swiss Drosos Foundation with technical support and supervision of the Institute for Transport and Development Policy (ITDP).
During his tour, the governor asserted that the project, in which the Cairo governorate will be the pioneer, comes in line with Egypt’s preparations for the 27th UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) scheduled to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh this November. He added that the governorate seeks to support the integration of means of transportation and encourage healthy practices to reduce harmful emissions in Cairo and ease traffic congestion in the Downtown area.
