Cairo Governor announces a new project to restore Andalus Park

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal said that El-Andalus Park is the first park registered as a heritage site in Egypt. It is also in the memory of many generations who enjoyed their picnics at the park. El-Andalus Park is on an area of 9000 m2. The Governor added that the park was neglected for a long time. So, the Governorate had to put a plan to restore its former glory. The Governor pointed out that there were several development projects, but it did not complete because of poor funding.
 
Moreover, the Governor announced that Cairo Governorate’s Housing Directorate is funding the renovation project adding that the project is carried out by a company specialized in heritage and monuments restoration under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities.  Moreover, he said that the project will cost 30 million EGP and will be two phases. The first phase will include the development of the infrastructure, repairing the irrigation system, and developing the fountain’s drainage network. As for the second phase, it will include the renovation of the statues at the pharaonic section of the Park. It will also include the replacement of the old fence to allow the visitor to enjoy the view of the Nile. 
 

Further, The Governor added that they got some old photos of the Park from the movies in which it appeared to restore its previous look with a bright illumination to give it an exquisite look.

 

El-Andalus Park is located in Cairo and has a distinctive location on the bank of the Nile River. El-Andalus Park was built by Mohammad Bey Zulfaqar in 1953, and it consists of two parts. The southern part is known as Hadiqat El-Ferdaous Al-Arabia “Arab Paradise Park” designed in the style of the Arab Andalusian parks in the city of Spain. As for the northern part, it is called the Pharaonic Park, which was added to the Coptic and Islamic monuments list.
