Egypt reported 1,475 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, giving a total tally of 55,233 since the outbreak began in February.
The health ministry also reported 87 new deaths, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 2,193.
The statement said that 409 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 14,736.
Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said that the number of cases who had retested negative, including the 14,736 recoveries, has now reached 16,214.
