Egypt witnessed on Sunday an annular solar eclipse. The phenomenon was observed by sky-watchers from West Africa to the Arabian Peninsula and the Far East, the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) announced.
The partial eclipse, the first in 2020, was visible for only two hours, from 6:24 am to 8:24 am, with its peak at 7:20 am when the moon covered 46 percent of the sun.
The annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon is far enough away from Earth so that it does not completely cover the sun, leading to a ring of light around the dark moon, or what is described as a ‘ring of fire.’
The eclipse began in central Africa and traveled over Saudi Arabia, northern India, and southern China, before ending in the Pacific Ocean.
Partial eclipses appeared in most of East Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, the NRIAG said.
