Egypt's Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday to accelerate the national strategy for pharmaceutical localization and the enhancement of presidential healthcare initiatives.
The Minister underscored the government's commitment to "Drug Security" as a national priority, aiming to transform Egypt into a regional hub for medical innovation and vaccine production by the end of 2026.
Expanding Women’s Health and Oncology Reach A major focus of the meeting was the "Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health," which has screened over 45 million women to date.
The Ministry announced the 2026 expansion of the "Start it Right" (Ebda’iha Sah) program, targeting an additional 5 million women in underserved rural areas. Furthermore, the meeting addressed the integration of the Breast digital screening technology into national protocols, a move expected to reduce diagnosis wait times by 40% and significantly improve survival rates through early detection and precise clinical trials in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute.
Advancing Precision Medicine and Clinical Research the Ministry is pivoting toward Precision Medicine, tailoring treatments for oncology and hemophilia patients based on genetic profiling—a global trend that Egypt is rapidly adopting.
To support this transition, a comprehensive training program is underway to certify 10,000 healthcare professionals in advanced international treatment standards by late 2026.
Localization of Vaccine Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical Sovereignty in a strategic move toward self-sufficiency, Abdel Ghaffar discussed plans to localize vaccine manufacturing to bolster national drug security and reduce the pharmaceutical import bill by an estimated 30%. By fostering a robust environment for clinical research and increasing investments in local supply chains, Egypt aims to cater not only to domestic needs but also to serve as a primary provider of vaccines and essential medications for the African and Middle Eastern markets.
